A/C on the coast

Grays Harbor summers are mild, so it’s easy to think the A/C barely matters here. It does more work than you’d guess.

It clears your windshield

On a damp morning, the defroster runs the A/C compressor to pull moisture out of the air. If the system is low, the glass takes longer to clear.

Seals dry out when it sits

In a mild climate the A/C can go months without much use, and that’s when seals dry out and start to leak. Running it for ten minutes every couple of weeks, even in winter, keeps them in shape.

Two kinds of refrigerant

Many cars from about 2015 on use R-1234yf instead of the older R-134a. Our machine handles both, so we can recharge newer cars as well as older ones.

How pricing works

We check the pressures and find the leak first, then quote the repair before any work starts. Every car is different, so there’s no set price for A/C work. Every repair carries the 24-month / 24,000-mile nationwide warranty through NAPA AutoCare.

A/C, Heating & Cooling questions

Can you just recharge my A/C?

Not before we know why it’s low. Refrigerant doesn’t get used up, so a low system has a leak, and if we just recharged it, it would leak right back out. We find the leak, repair it, then recharge the system.

Which refrigerant does my car use?

There’s a sticker under the hood that says. Many cars from about 2015 on use R-1234yf; older ones use R-134a. We service both.

Why does my A/C smell musty?

Moisture collects on the evaporator behind the dash, and in a damp climate it can grow mildew. A new cabin air filter helps with some of it.
